How to Immigrate to Canada as a Skilled Worker from India

BY

The Canadian government intends to welcome nearly 400,000 new permanent residents each year under its Immigration Levels Plan.

India continues to be a key partner in achieving this aim as Canada’s largest source of new permanent citizens.

One-quarter of all new Canadian immigrants arrived from India in 2019, before COVID-19 interrupted immigration. If flight suspensions and other COVID-19 travel limitations are lifted, Canada might expect to receive over 100,000 new permanent residents from India each year.

Travel From India to Canada

Since September 27, 2021, direct flights from India have resumed. The government has modified its COVID screening standards at the entry port. Before you go, please study the most recent government guidelines.

Fully vaccinated travelers may be eligible for some exemptions from quarantine and testing as of July 5, 2021, if they match the following criteria:

  • Eligible to enter Canada
  • Asymptomatic
  • Meet the standards of the Canadian government for fully immunized travelers.
  • Before you arrive, complete all entrance formalities, including inputting your details in ArriveCAN.

A complete list of requirements that must be satisfied before entering Canada may be found on the Government of Canada’s website. This site also has up-to-date travel information.

Immigration Programs

Express Entry:

Express Entry is a method for managing applications for skilled professionals with international job experience who want to permanently come to Canada. Indian nationals received 46 percent of all invites through the Express Entry program in 2019. The following steps are involved in obtaining permanent residency through Express Entry:

  • Check if you are eligible.
  • Prepare your documents.
  • Submit your profile.
  • Receive an invitation.

Program for Provincial Nominees (PNP):

Another option for talented people who want to immigrate to Canada and become permanent residents is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Each province has its own set of requirements and “streams,” in which provinces target specific populations like students, entrepreneurs, skilled employees, and semi-skilled workers.

How you apply for PNP will be determined by your field of interest. Some streams require a paper application, while others use the Express Entry online system. You must pass a medical exam and police check as part of the PNP application procedure.

Be aware that your biometrics (fingerprint and photograph) will be required in most circumstances as part of the application process.

Additional Programs:

Over 100 different economic class pathways are available in Canada, as well as a variety of other possibilities, such as family sponsorship streams, for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who desire to bring their loved ones to Canada from India.
